Project COMconèixer

The project COMknowledge, born in Catalonia, enhances the construction and creation of knowledge in a collective and collaborative way in different countries, starting from the experience developed in Quebec and Toronto.

In Catalonia, the project COMknowledge brings its methodological experience and acts as catalyst in the use of KF among teachers and pupils from the participant educative centers. It also gets the support of methodological and linguistic strategies proposed by the Department of Didactics from the Faculty of Education Science in the Autonomous University from Barcelona.

The most important protagonists are the pupils from primary, secondary education and long-life-learning centers, with the teachers acting as tutors. The universities and experts from the Department of Education contribute methodological aspects, knowledge of the tool Knowledge Forum (KF) from the University of Toronto, experience in the field of international educative collaboration and in evaluation.

The project develops and applies a methodology of work leading to collaborative building of knowledge. It especially relies on the teachers and experts from the education centers in Catalonia, as they have long experience in international cooperative projects, in order to encourage qualitative exchanges and good practices (good work and good practice) with the objective of experimenting further and building together theories to explain them.
The aims of the Project are the following:

Establishing small communities of knowledge building, including pupils, teachers and school principals as well as researchers and administrators to develop local and international network for building new knowledge

Changing the role of the participants, so that they act as transformative agents in the schools, disseminating a way of working different from the traditional one, more coherent with the requirements of our present society.

The project is based in a formative research methodology and plans implications at different levels: local and international, theoretical and practical.

These levels are interconnected by the creation of learning communities at each level and they will develop a process of collaborative learning.

That means working together, from the exposition of a problem until its solution. It is necessary to discuss the problem together, discuss different ways of understanding that problem, the most appropriate strategies to solve it, and then agree on the resources to use. That implies a higher complexity than group learning , and, of course, some added difficulties. The protagonists will be the pupils and teachers, because the project incorporates an educative model that makes it easy for the student both the research and the generation of knowledge from group interaction.
